Metsä Group continuously improves the efficiency of energy use and production, and increases the share of bioenergy as part of its climate programme. Sixty per cent of the Group's energy procurement is based on renewable wood fuels. The objective is to further increase the share and production of bio-sourced and carbon-neutral energy.
Metsä Wood operates in compliance with the Group's environmental objectives, and 97 per cent of the energy used in its production units is wood-based.
We have improved our energy efficiency through the following actions:
- We use bioenergy in most of our production units and strive to be self-sufficient in terms of energy use.
- We develop our energy saving programmes with an Energy Efficiency System (EES).
- We improve the energy efficiency of our buildings. Metsä Group has joined the WBCSD (World Business Council for Sustainable Development) manifesto for development of energy efficiency in buildings.
