Spruce plywood

Nordic spruce plywood for interior and exterior construction

Metsä Wood spruce plywood is an excellent general-purpose construction panel, ideal for both interior and exterior construction work, and any other uses which value strength, stability and lightweight versatility.

Metsä Wood spruce plywood is manufactured from a long-grained, homogenous Nordic conifer with straight grains. Its veneer structure gives this versatile plywood panel considerable strength and rigidity. Spruce plywood panels are light, easy to work with and easy to install using conventional wood-working tools and fasteners. As well as being beautifully light coloured, spruce plywood is also up to 20% lighter than many alternatives whilst maintaining similar strength characteristics and resistance to humidity. Excellent weather and boil-proofing is ensured by using fully waterproof adhesives in our manufacturing process.

Glulam beams for structural construction

Excellent strength properties and outstanding visual appearance

Metsä Wood Glulam beams are  constructed using sawn structural timber. The lamellas are cut along the grain, which are then finger-jointed and glued together to the desired size. Glulam is an ideal material for the load-bearing structures of wooden buildings where long spans are desired.

Glulam is made of Nordic premium timber. It has excellent strength properties and outstanding visual appearance.  The slowly growing pine and spruce grow in the boreal forest zone where the soil and climate conditions mean that the forests grow slowly. The wood material becomes dense-fibred, small branched, solid and durable. Metsä Wood Glulam is a response to the builder's needs. Shape, dimensions and finishing can be freely chosen. The glue is weather-resistant.

Finnjoist

Finnjoist I beam

I-beam joists delivering strength and stability for your engineered wood flooring

Metsä Wood Finnjoists® (FJI)are manufactured from high quality oriented strand board (OSB3) web, and flanges made from our own Kerto® LVL (laminated veneer lumber).  Our engineered timber I-beam joists deliver strength and rigidity, virtually eradicating floor movement and its associated problems, resulting in greater floor performance.

Thanks to excellent properties of Kerto Finnjoist is incredibly strong and dimensionally stable, and it does not distort or shrink. It derives its high strength from the homogeneous bonded structure and is an excellent flange material. Finnjoist I-beam is lightweight yet incredibly strong, resulting in a quick and reliable installation.

Wood flooring

At Metsä Wood we offer a range of high quality softwood Planed Tongue and Groove (PTG) flooring available in various sizes.

Our softwood PTG flooring is manufactured from slow-grown premium redwood timber, precision finished and fully machined.

PTG flooring applications

Below is our range of softwood wood PTG flooring available in various timber grades to suit the end application. Redwood is the best option for use as a clear stained floor as it has a smooth planed surface. The unsorted grade will generally have fewer and smaller knots. Whitewood flooring is ideal for use where carpet, tile or wood flooring is the final flooring surface.

Installation of PTG flooring

Here is some guidance on installation but please refer to our online video and fixing guide for more details.

  • Flooring should be ‘conditioned’ in situ for 2-3 weeks dependent upon conditions. As timber is a natural product this will give it time to absorb or lose moisture so that when fitted there is less likelihood of excess movement after fitting.
  • Flooring is not suited for installation over underfloor heating
  • Flooring must be laid facing upwards which can be seen by inspecting the tongue and the groove. The face side has the thicker surface.

Hunter Woodshavings

Values guide Metsä Group's operations

High quality, dust extracted horse bedding

Produced by Metsä Wood at our own manufacturing sites, each weatherproof bale of Hunter Woodshavings is vacuum packed with fresh, dry, softwood shavings taken directly off our production lines to give you a consistently high quality and totally natural product.

With no timber debris or external shavings being allowed in our bales, the demand for top performing horse bedding can sometimes exceed the supply of our high quality Hunter shavings. As such we have limited our distribution to a select number of stockists who ensure regular customers are well looked after. Please click on the 'where to buy' link on the right for your local stockist's details.

Unlike many other brands on the market, both cheaper and more expensive, Hunter Woodshavings are a totally natural product that guarantees excellent performance across four critical areas.

HIGH ABSORBENCY: Absorbs 250% of its own weight in minutes (up to 145% more than some)*

LOW DUST CONTENT: Consistently less than 4.5% (some bedding has twice this)*

LARGE SPREAD VOLUME: 2.75m2 area (6" deep) filled per 25kg bale (Up to 180% greater than some)*

LOW SPORE CONTENT: As few as 0 fungal spores per kg (most bedding has millions)*

* Independently tested by SATRA, a British equestrian trade association designated testing centre.

MegaSpread Woodshavings

Values guide Metsä Group's operations

The new horse bedding from Metsä Wood

MEGASpreadTM Woodshavings is a new and exciting addition to the Metsä Wood equine bedding brand of Hunter Woodshavings. It is made from virgin softwood shavings using sustainable untreated sources. The shavings are vaccum packed under extreme compression so when the bale is opened, the shavings spring back to give exceptional spread volume.

ASpread has large flakes for maximum stability enabling the bed to stay supportive and in place, minimizing the risk of hock and joint injuries in the stable. It is extremely dust-extracted and dried at sterilizing temperatures to reduce bacteria and fungi ensuring the health of your horses respiratory system.

The large soft flakes take longer to break down under foot – the smaller flakes make their way to the bottom of the bed creating maximum absorbency therefore maintaining a dryer top layer for greater comfort and protection for your horses hooves and lungs against ammonia.

The clean white flakes discolour when wet making them easy to find and remove, minimizing waste and saving you time.

Advantages include:

Exceptional spread volume: The shavings are vaccum packed under extreme compression so when the bale is opened the light fluffy shavings spring back to give exceptional spread volume.
Large soft flakes: This bedding consists of large flakes for maximum stability enabling the bed to stay supportive and in place, minimizing the risk of hock and joint injuries in the stable. The large soft flakes take longer to break down under foot and are easier to remove from rugs, manes and tails. When mucking out the large flakes also shake off the soiled bedding well minimizing waste making them economical to use.
Healthy: Mega Spread is made from sustainable virgin, untreated softwood giving you a natural product free from additives.
Hygienic: The shavings are dried at sterilizing temperatures to reduce bacteria and fungi to create a safer environment for you and your horse.
Highly absorbent: The smaller flakes make their way to the bottom of the bed creating maximum absorbency therefore maintaining a dryer top layer for greater comfort and protection for your horses’ hooves and lungs against ammonia. The clean white flakes discolour when wet making them easy to find and remove, saving you time.
Low dust content: The shavings are extremely dust extracted as they are sieved to remove small dust particles, ensuring the health of your horses’ respiratory system.

MEGASpread is available from selected stockists nationwide. For more information contact jackie.blundell@metsagroup.com.

Grown in extremes

Finland experiences some of the harshest winters on the planet. Because Metsä Wood is raised in these tough conditions it grows slower and as a result is tighter, stronger and more durable than trees grown in warmer climates.

Tested to extremes

The quality of our raw materials translates into higher performance in the real world. In third party testing, Metsä's Nordic FencingTM range has proven to be twice as strong as the market leading panels, withstanding gale force winds of over 100mph!

Built for extremes

From frosty, windswept and rain drenched winters to balmy, humid summers we get all extremes of weather here in the UK. Therefore it's important that you fit a fence panel that can cope. Using a better grade of raw material, Metsä's Nordic FencingTM offers a performance that simply cannot be matched by it's Southern European counterparts.
