The site is located in a vibrant area of London's Hackney but due to proximity to the railway has hitherto been a low priority for redevelopment. The site is occupied by a two storey steel frame industrial unit scheme which does not exploit the true potential of the site.

We envisage a low carbon residential development with superstructure made entirely of Kerto elements. Extending to eight storeys of accommodation the top floor gives out onto a shared greenhouse terrace area, a covered wintergarden to provide a social, light filled amenity for the residents.

A development on this site will be inevitable at some point in the near future but we want this to be a sustainable development that utilises the full potential of the Kerto elements. The project will develop a methodology to put the range of products to maximum use, and provide 42 residential units.

Plan B : City Above the City architecture competition

Metsä Wood challenged architects and students around the world to push the boundaries of modern wood building design in the urban environment. Entrants from 40 countries created their Plan B to urbanisation using wood (Kerto® LVL – laminated veneer lumber) as the main material. The task was to design a wooden extension to an existing urban building. The entries were designed to 69 cities worldwide.
