Cities are systems in constant change. During their alternation some elements that are not necessary, or do not fit in the new program will be removed or replaced. Of these elements, many are colossal structures that once were a necessity, structures that are of a unique style or construction technique. Yet regardless of their values and potentials these buildings are being demolished.

NOGENT SUR MARNE multi storey parking building (RER station) is one of these buildings. A rare example of brutalist architecture in Paris that is being demolished and replaced.

This project aims to propose an alternative approach for transforming these solid structures by adding and merging a new building on the top of the existing concrete structure and adapting the building to the new program.

Plan B : City Above the City architecture competition

Metsä Wood challenged architects and students around the world to push the boundaries of modern wood building design in the urban environment. Entrants from 40 countries created their Plan B to urbanisation using wood (Kerto® LVL – laminated veneer lumber) as the main material. The task was to design a wooden extension to an existing urban building. The entries were designed to 69 cities worldwide.
