Reunite

Separated woods were finally joined together to turn back into a “Tree”; The offspring meet together again around the table. Both of them are sort of a REUNITE

Hong Kong is one of the world’s most significant financial centres. However, while Hong Kong has one of the highest per capita incomes in the world, it suffers from the most severe income inequality among developed economies.

Hong Kong is renowned for its skyline, with a very high density of skyscrapers; the territory boasts the second largest number of high rises of any city in the world. There are 1,223 skyscrapers in Hong Kong, which puts the city at the top of world rankings. The high density and tall skyline of Hong Kong’s urban area is due to a lack of available sprawl space much of it reclaimed land. This lack of space causes demand for dense, high-rise offices and housing. Thirty-six of the world’s 100 tallest residential buildings are in Hong Kong, making it the world’s most vertical city.

Wood structure buildings dominated the building materials at the ancient period for thousand years, no matter the western culture, Ancient Greek or the Ancient Roman, or the Eastern culture, Japanese or Korean. The most outstanding use of wood must be the ancient Chinese. The Forbidden City is the world most largest wood structural group which owned 72 thousand square metres area.

Traditionally, Chinese will plant a tree at the time when their child is young. The tree will grow with them at the same time. When their child grown up, they will have a good quality of wood to build house.

Kong Mingsuo is an ancient Chinese traditional civil building fixation device. Without nails and cords, completely rely on its structure is connected with the support, like a piece of paper in half once can stand up and show a seemingly simple, but condensed with extraordinary wisdom.

Growing up a child is just like growing up a tree. We need to put so much care to  them. We worried about them. Finally, they become a good person and good material to build home. If we don’t cut the tree down, fruits will grow on the tree. At the same time, there are more and more offspring in your family tree.

Always when the offspring live outside your house already, you have so few chance to meet them again unless special date. Chinese people used to live in a big group of house with a central courtyard with their family. They have a very good relationship between them. Things happen in the courtyard, the noise outside were blocked.

Government is planning to level off those abandoned industrial blocks to create lands for other usage. However, activation is one of the way to satisfied both land supply and cultural preservation. Building above the buildings is the way to increase residential place to overcome the rapid population growth. If the programme is to be promoted to the whole city, city above the city is the way to manage the population growth.
