Metsä Wood will outsource the maintenance of its Renko and Lappeenranta sawmills to Caverion Finland as of 1 February 2016. These two sawmills will serve as a pilot scheme to explore the outsourcing of maintenance operations more extensively at Metsä Wood.
“As part of our industrial efficiency strategy, we have developed maintenance practices and strategic partnership management in recent years. Through harmonising maintenance, we are seeking significant improvements in operational availability, cost efficiency and working capital management. Our purchasing partnership project aims to centralise purchases with our strategic partners. In cooperation with such partners, we will be able to systematically develop our operations over the long term and focus on core competences of both parties,” says Esa Kaikkonen, EVP, Metsä Wood.
“Caverion has broad and varied expertise in maintenance in several sectors and the resources to invest in operational development on a large scale. Maintenance is Caverion’s core business, and we believe they will help us improve our operations and operational efficiency,” says Jani Riissanen, SVP, Purchasing at Metsä Wood.
The maintenance employees at Metsä Wood’s Renko and Lappeenranta sawmills will transfer to Caverion Finland as existing employees on 1 February 2016.
Jari Juutilainen, who has been appointed Development Manager, will be responsible for the practical implementation of the maintenance outsourcing project in cooperation with sawmills and partners. He will also be in charge of contracts related to the outsourcing project.
