Finnforest has launched WalkSure, a low slip deck board, providing an attractive and colourful alternative to traditional timber decking. With its safe slip resistant surface in wet or dry conditions, WalkSure is ideal for use in external commercial, leisure and communal settings where safety underfoot is required.
Manufactured using Finnforest’s PEFC certified, pressure treated softwood timber WalkSure deck board is profiled and finished with a textured insert formed from granulated EPDM rubber. Deck boards are available as 28mm x 119mm x 3.6m.
Rated as having ‘low potential for slip”, WalkSure has been independently tested to BS7976 Part 2, conforming to UK slip resistance guidelines. Tested with Type 96 4S Slider and Type 55 (TRL) Slider, in both wet and dry conditions, WalkSure provides peace of mind and is a safe specification choice.
Providing a comfortable, low-injury risk and child-friendly surface, the softness of WalkSure is suitable for play areas or even surrounding swimming pools. The reduced noise levels that the EPDM rubber layer delivers can provide up to 30db sound damping on footfall noise, ideal for areas of high foot traffic.
WalkSure is available in the standard colour combination of “Charcoal/Red” but can be manufactured in a series of six additional colours that are designed to blend with different landscapes such as turf, sandstone, brick and asphalt. Combining this with the natural aesthetic of timber, it can be used to provide a unique appearance in areas where aesthetics are key.
WalkSure deck boards can be cut to size easily using standard tools and they are fixed in the normal way using decking screws or secret fix clips. For a neat face fix, trim head screws are recommended and these will be almost invisible on the surface.
Paul Maw, Product Manager for Finnforest, is confident that the new WalkSure deck boards help to fill a gap in the market, providing specifiers and end users with a hard-wearing, low slip decking: “WalkSure not only provides slip resistance but gives the added benefits of a cushioned non-abrasive surface and a unique appearance. The combination of features makes it ideal for a variety of applications including children’s play areas, care homes, walkways, hotel grounds, and pub gardens.”
