Challenge
De Roma has been built in the early thirties of the last century and with its thousand eight seats once the largest cinema of Antwerp. From 1982 to 2002 the theatre closed and the building was to dwindle. A group of volunteers blew new live in it again and created a first restoration, but the lack of investment and maintenance in the decades before was palpable. Therefore, the cinema building has been renovated thoroughly in the summer of 2015 on the inside and outside. As the schedule of the ROMA was very busy everything had to be done in a very short time during the summer closure. The 86 -year-old wooden floor of the balcony, including 442 seats, had to be replaced.
