Kerto LVL used for stands of the historical theatre

De Roma has been built in the early thirties of the last century and with its thousand eight seats once the largest cinema of Antwerp. From 1982 to 2002 the theatre closed and the building was to dwindle. A group of volunteers blew new live in it again and created a first restoration, but the lack of investment and maintenance in the decades before was palpable. Therefore, the cinema building has been renovated thoroughly in the summer of 2015 on the inside and outside. As the schedule of the ROMA was very busy everything had to be done in a very short time during the summer closure. The 86 -year-old wooden floor of the balcony, including 442 seats, had to be replaced.

The Kerto-Stand concept, based on the ultra-strong Kerto LVL (laminated veneer lumber), has been developed by Gerko Afbouw, a partner who is responsible for the preparation, construction and installation. The advantages of this concept are: Advantageous vibration behavior, good acoustic performance, prefabrication (fast assembly), reduction of failure costs, waste minimization, contribution to sustainability and health and safety regulations which are taken into account. The three-dimensional designing has been done in BIM and included the acoustic features and structural analysis. The prefabrication is tailor-made by factory CNC.

In three months' time the whole theatre has been extensively refurbished, the reopening took place on September 17th, 2015.

Concerning the replacement of this stand the principal De Roma ( could easily lay all the requirements on the desk of one party: speed and comfort assured.
