Fit-for-purpose sawn timber products delivered in the most efficient manner

“The willingness to bring added value to the customer is obvious in Metsä Wood’s operations. There is plenty of raw material available in the sawing business therefore customer service, reliable cooperation and the exact knowledge of the production processes is what great partnerships are built on.”
Keijo Erkheikki, Production Director, Baltic Countries & Finland, Jeld-Wen

Jeld-Wen Eesti AS, a door manufacturer with production in 24 European countries, wanted to find new sawn timber products that would work more efficiently in their production processes. New dimensions instead of the standard ones would also improve the availability of the raw material they need.

Jeld-Wen needs fit-for-purpose sawn timber products that Metsä Wood would produce and deliver in the most efficient manner.

Jeld-Wen and Metsä Wood started to optimise together both of their production processes. This included also test runs at the Metsä Wood sawmill as well as in Jeld-Wen’s production. This way, the functionality of the solutions was verified in practice – in the industrial scale right from the beginning. One point of interest was also the potential cost savings through, as example, improved yield in customer’s production process.

Jeld-Wen uses some 100 000 cubic metres of sawn timber annually. To meet this demand they need large and reliable suppliers. The biggest advantage of the transparent and close cooperation was that Jeld-Wen found new product dimensions and qualities suitable for their processes. The world’s most modern sawmill, the Metsä Wood Vilppula sawmill, was the solution to the challenge as it has the flexibility to respond to various customer needs.

Metsä Wood’s target is to help their customers to achieve growth and improved profitability in their business. This can be achieved jointly with the customer, by searching and identifying the most efficient solutions from the point of view of the supply chain.
