Challenge

Schlagwerk produces musical instruments, especially drums, and they needed new production facilities. The challenge was to build a hall of 1,600m² with a large and open interior space without a supporting structures in the middle. Therefore, the frames would need to be load-bearing and strong.

Solution

The frames of Schlagwerk's hall are made of Kerto LVL and glulam. The wooden rib elements are 12 m long and 2 m wide. The main advantages of Kerto LVL – its long span length, lightness and strength – made it possible to build the spacious hall without additional support.

Results

The hall was built with large wood elements which shortened the erection time. The pre-fabricated elements were bought to the site by lorry and they could be installed immediately. Building with elements also reduced the construction costs.
