Architect Philip Tidwell is a teacher at the Wood Program at Aalto University Department of Architecture in Helsinki, Finland. In our new Talking Wood video Tidwell explains how off-site construction makes wood construction more efficient and ecological. Tidwell values architectural freedom made possible by using fast, light green Kerto LVL (laminated veneer lumber) as construction material.
The video also highlights Kokoon, a modular wooden house designed by Tidwell’s students of Wood Program. Kokoon is one of the Metsä Wood’s Open Source Wood award winners. Open Source Wood is a collaboration platform for architects and engineers to share their innovations in modular wood construction. The initiative aims to facilitate knowledge sharing and collaboration. To browse the uploaded designs and to share your own ideas, visit Opensourcewood.com.
